No matter how long you’ve been a resident of Philadelphia, there’s still nothing quite like a classic Philly cheesesteak. Whether you prefer Cheese Whiz or melted American, wit’ or wit’out, if you are reading this then there’s a high likelihood that you appreciate the artistry that goes into this Philadelphia classic. Coming this Saturday to the parking lot of Lincoln Financial Field is the first-ever Philadelphia Cheesesteak Festival, a celebration of all things beefy, cheesy, and delicious.
It’s the question that has started many a rivalry and bar fight: who has the best cheesesteaks in Philly? The Cheesesteak Festival allows attendees to decide the question for themselves. Philadelphia Cheesesteak Festival co-founder Kevin Baxter and festival partner Michael Wink said that they feel everyone has the right to determine for themselves who has the best cheesesteak. Those attending the festival will have the option to sample 1.5-inch tastings of vendors’ cheesesteaks, and packages are available through which attendees can purchase five or even ten of these samples.
The Philadelphia Cheesesteak Festival is being billed as a family event. There will be rides, games, and entertainment in addition to the chance to stuff your face with delicious cheesesteak samples. Part of the entertainment will be the construction of a 450-foot-long cheesesteak in an attempt to bring the world record back to Philadelphia. (It’s currently held by a shop in Tucson, Arizona!) There will also be a cheesesteak-eating competition, a zipline, and loads of other fun.
Admission is $20, or $40 for a package that includes 10 vendor coupons and a t-shirt. Kids get in for $10.
