The Philly Naked Bike Ride is rolling into town this weekend!

There’s something very freeing about riding a bike: the sunshine on your face, the wind in your hair, the sight of other naked people cycling alongside you… wait, something isn’t right here. Or is it? The Philly Naked Bike Ride is returning to the city this coming weekend. Promoting a message of green transportation and positive body image, this ride is a ten-mile journey that is open to cyclists of all skill levels. It is definitely not a race, and is meant to be completed at a leisurely, conversational pace that is welcoming to even beginners.

The Philly Naked Bike Ride is rolling into town this weekend!

Feeling a little skittish about hitting the road in your birthday suit? The Philly Naked Bike Ride is considered “bare as you dare,” so nudity isn’t strictly required to participate in the event. Participants have long played around with the idea of nudity in their ensembles, utilizing body paint and creatively-placed accessories to cover their nether bits. The FAQ for the ride hilariously suggests covering your bike seat in something soft “to protect your bum.” At the slow pace encouraged, the ride takes between two and three hours to complete.

Another interesting tidbit from the FAQ – the organizers of the Philly Naked Bike Ride are cagey about the legality of biking naked. They link to city code on their website and are careful to mention that nobody has ever been cited or arrested for biking naked during past rides. I suppose it all comes down to your definition of “right” and “wrong.”

The Philly Naked Bike Ride is part of a larger worldwide naked biking movement that’s rapidly spreading across the globe. It’s free to participate and pre-registration is only required so that you can access the starting location for the ride. So get out there and bare as you dare!
