Philly Voice Counts Down “Iconic” City Bathrooms

I’ve heard of magazine-worthy living rooms or kitchens, but not so much a bathroom. There’s something about this humble, functional room that doesn’t much lend itself to the spotlight. That’s why it was such a hilarious, quirky choice by the Philly Voice to spotlight ten of the most “iconic” bathrooms in the city. Some of these are ultra luxe, others are distinctly dive-y. All are more than just your average water closet, however. Here’s a rundown of some of the bathrooms highlighted by the Voice.

McGlinchey’s bathroom is one of the city’s most iconic.

The girliest lavatory in the roundup goes to the ladies’ room at Sassafras Bar, which features a comfy pink couch in its brightly-painted bathroom. The rooms looks more like a funky living room than it does a bathroom. The intention is to give women, those inherently social creatures, a place “to sit and chat,” according to owner Neill Laughlin. Hopefully there’s not a line!

The poppiest restroom goes to Cheu Noodle Bar, where pop art cutouts adorn the walls. The looks is a little chaotic, but plenty interesting. At least you’ll have something to look at while you do your business?

Then there’s McGlinchey’s bar, where tagging is the name of the name. Graffiti covers the walls (and part of the ceiling and floor) of the bathroom, making the room look more like a particularly decrepit subway corner than a restroom. It’s more than a little grungy looking, but again very interesting.
