Fall in love with Philly all over again this Saturday in Love Park.

What will you be doing on Valentine’s Day? If there’s a special someone in your life, maybe you’ll be celebrating this Saturday with a candlelit dinner and roses. Romance is in the air! Or maybe you’re single and will be spending the day scarfing down chocolate and belting Whitney Houston’s “The Greatest Love of All” – those are my plans, anyway. Coupled or single, you can share in a little love on the 14th with the first ever “I Love Philly” Day, held this Saturday at Love Park.

Councilman Curtis Jones says that the event was organized with the intent of dispelling much of the negativity that has surrounded Philadelphia (and the experience of living here) as of late. To combat what he termed “a ‘Negadelphia’ frame of mind” and to “turn the shrugs into hugs,” everyone is invited for a day of interfaith speaking, music, and poetry, all centered around Philadelphia and what a great place it is to live. The event will last from 1pm until 4pm, and is a great way to spend the afternoon of Valentine’s Day before going out in the evening.

The event is being organized by the Mayor’s Office of Faith-Based Initiatives and the House of Umoja, a nonprofit focused on gang mediation and neighborhood development. The organizers are asking everyone in the city – faith-based groups, business leaders, legislators, educators, students, and others – to show up in support of the city and in defiance of negativity and indifference. What better time to rekindle a love affair with your city than on Valentine’s Day?
