Reliable sources are announcing that Jose Garces has recently signed a lease on the Old Original Bookbinder’s space at 2nd and Walnut street in Old City, Philadelphia. Garces has successfully opened 15 award winning restaurants from Philly to Atlantic City, with two new ventures underway right here in Philly. Garces is opening Rosa Blanca where Chifa used to be at 7th and Chestnut, and Volver in the Kimmel Center, opening this Fall. The 13,000 square foot space is twice the size of Garces’ flagship restaurant Amada, right around the corner. Bookbinder’s has been dormant since 2009, after filing for bankruptcy. Some are speculating that the Presidents Room will reopen as a pub, and some say Garces could use the space for TV production. I guess we will soon find out what Garces’ next best idea will be!
