Oh boy…the likelihood of running over a biker on your commute home just grew exponentially! By late summer or early fall of 2014 Philadelphia Bike Share will be in Center City Philadelphia. The basic premise will be the same as other large cities like New York, D.C., London, Paris and others both domestic and abroad – bikes will be available in pre-designated pick up/drop off stations throughout the city and you can pick one up, ride to another location close to your desired destination, and drop the bike off. So in essence it’s not that different from taking the subway in that the rider will have to know the best locations to pick up and drop off bikes near their ultimate destination.
“Bike Share Philadelphia is a network of organizations and individuals working to bring Public Use Bicycles, bike sharing, to Philadelphia. Their mission is promoting community use bicycle program to aid personal mobility for our congested city. Bike share programs provide bicycles to the public for free or at little cost in order to encourage bicycling as a viable form of public transportation, to reduce traffic congestion and to enhance the livability of cities.”
