Philadelphia Real Estate

Hey Philadelphia Real Estate Community!  Something big is happening next Friday, January 25th at the Franklin Institute. 12 feet long, 4 feet high, sheer ice, and chainsawsThe Titanic will rise again on the steps of the Franklin Institute.  On Friday, February 25, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Peter Slavin, world famous Master Ice Carver and his team will be carving a full-scale model Titanic at the Franklin Institute.  The action will run into the afternoon with true performance carvers entertaining the crowd and creating a fantastic work of art at the same time.

Friday morning, January 25th, Peter Slavin and his ice carving crew, Fear No Ice, will be carving a 12 foot long, 4 foot high Titanic on the steps of the Franklin Institute. The carvers will begin to tackle this feat at 10:30 a.m. and continue into the afternoon.

“Slavin, a world-famous Master Carver, is a co-founder of the fire and ice event “Manayunk On Ice,” now in its third year in the district of Manayunk. “We heard about the Titanic exhibit at the Franklin Institute and immediately thought this could be an amazing connection,” Slavin said.  Visitors can watch as gigantic ice blocks transform into the infamous Titanic ocean liner right before their eyes. A full scale model designed off of the exact proportions of the real ship. From the ship’s famous four smoke stacks, to hundreds of portholes, to the gigantic, menacing iceberg, visitors will see it “come to life” in crystal clear ice under the skillful hands of Peter and his talented team. Fear No Ice is a company of performance carvers, sharing their talents all over the world. Crowd involvement, excitement and little take-home blocks of ice for the kids are all part of this crew’s performance.”

The carving has been made possible through the efforts of Manayunk.com, their media partners CBS Philly, and the Franklin Institute.

“The Titanic exhibit is a perfect tie-in to our Manayunk On Ice Festival in February. Bringing carvers to the steps of the Franklin Institute adds a whole new dimension to our event. I can stand on the Franklin Institute steps and shout ‘Ice carvings right ahead!’” said Jane Lipton, Executive Director of the Manayunk Development Corporation.”

The Manayunk On Ice three day event takes place two weeks later along Main Street in Manayunk; February 8-10th. The event kicks off with a 20-foot ice bonfire that Friday evening, with Slavin and other master carvers performing throughout the weekend. Expect to see large exhibition sculptures, competitive ice battles, and much more. The Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition at the Franklin Institute runs until April 7.
