Maria Panartitis and Joseph DiStefano of Philly.com are reporting that the Philadelphia Real Estate community can expect “the second-largest Whole Foods Market in the region – just smaller than a suburban behemoth at Plymouth Meeting Mall” to soon appear near the current Whole Foods on the border of the Logan Square and Art Museum Area neighborhoods. According to DiStefano, Neal Rodin’s International Finance Company (IFC), “plans to build a $100 million Whole Foods supermarket and apartment complex somewhere near the chain’s smaller Art Museum-area location, and has been circulating a plan to do just that on the 2.9-acre site occupied by the Best Western motel, between 21st and 22nd at Spring Garden”
$100 Million WHOLE FOODS Quick Facts
Proposed project encompasses “almost a full square block,” including a “luxury residential midrise containing between 250-300 apartments,”
The current proposal includes underground parking, a lounge/cafe, and retail spaces at 50,000, 30,000, 11,000, 9,000 and 5,000 square feet.
Principals envision a Whole Foods on par with the one currently located on Columbus Circle in Manhattan.
Rodin plans to make details of project known within 90 days
Whole Foods has signed a lease with Rodin’s company for the new store at an undisclosed location “near its longstanding 20th and Callowhill Streets store, also near the Art Museum”.
Obviously this is major news. I’ll put up additional posts as information starts to come in.
