Queen Village Seeking Donations For Mural

Queen Village Seeking Donations For Mural

Conrad Booker Queen Village Mural

The Queen Village Neighbors Association is seeking donations for a mural project hopefully coming to 770 South 4th Street in Queen Village.

A large-scale mural, designed by Queen Village artist Conrad Booker, is proposed for the wall on the Fulton Street side wall of 770 South 4th Street. Conrad is well known for many public art installations including the recent butterfly installations at Headhouse Square as well as Fabric Row and other locations.  For over a decade, the site where the new mural is to be installed has experienced a disproportionate amount of litter, dumping, graffiti, as well as more severe crimes. In short, the site in question currently looks terrible and is a major problem for our community.  The new mural is titled Harmony and the Windows of Curiosities in recognition that Fulton Street was named Harmony Street in the 19th century. The mural depicts an 1856 map of the surrounding Queen Village area, with butterflies emerging from the African-American cemetery that is now Weccacoe Playground.

Here’s what the property looks like currently:

The total cost of the mural is approximately $14,000 and significant commitments have already been made. All contributions are tax-deductible.  Payments can be made to Queen Village Neighbors Association, with “Mural Project” in the memo. Mail to QVNA, P.O. Box 63763, Philadelphia, PA 19147
