Philly.com reports that well known developer Bart Blatstein wants to build a casino complex on a property he recently acquired on Broad Street, North of City Hall, and covert the Inquirer/Daily News building into a hotel. The entire project will span 3 blocks and would be the largest contribution to the North Broad Street revitalization effort to date. Blatstein will have to obtain a casino license for the project and luckily one is available since the previously approved Foxwoods Casino failed to open and the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board revoked Foxwoods’ license in December of 2010.
“This is going to happen,” Blatstein said, standing on the roof of the State Office Building at Broad and Spring Garden streets, which he is turning into an apartment and retail complex. “I stake my reputation of 35 years on it. This is going to be the place to be. When we go into an area, others will follow and money will flow.”
Strong words from Blatstein…but given his resume he’s earned the right to be confidant.
