Dickinson Square Park Renovations Begin

Pennsport – Move over Pennsport Pub and Federal Donuts we’ll soon have another great reason to venture over to Pennsport – the newly renovated Dickinson Square Park.  As many neighbors will attest, a chain link fence went up a few weeks back and renovations have begun.  Construction is expected to take several months and the project is expected to be complete by Spring/Summer 2012

Dickinson Square Park Master Plan

Here are some of the highlights listed on the website for the Friends of Dickinson Square Park:

“The round red building will be demolished and removed, thereby opening up sight lines across the Park.

Old and unhealthy trees will be removed.

The Park will have new pedestrian-level lighting, and the old 1970s street lights will be removed.

New concrete pathways will be installed on the Morris Street side of the Park.

The old playground equipment will be removed, and new, modern equipment installed.

New water lines will be installed on the Tasker Street side, making it easier to water new plants.

A new basketball court.

And more.”

The renovation is being funded by 1) a grant from the City of Philadelphia, 2) the State of Pennsylvania, 3) Councilman Frank DiCicco and 4) Fairmount Park Commissioner Michael DiBerardinis.
